I lost my Sister (only sibling) to complications of Cancer at the age of 27.
She was a peacemaker and had an attitude about life to "go with the flow".
From this experience, I have learned and grown.
It is often difficult not to worry about problems in life. It is often all too easy to let stresses get
the best of you. But, if there is one thing I have learned, it is to appreciate EVERY day
& always to make an effort to see the glass as half-full.
We have often said: "The worst thing has already happened to us!"
We are members of a group that we did not want to be members of!
Each day we have a new opportunity to live and learn and laugh!
I have a cousin who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2004.
She had a double mastectomy that August (when she turned 24),
and has been cancer free since then.
I have a cousin who had Malignant Brain Tumor removed in January 2008.
She has completed her treatments and is recovering well.
I have started a non-profit organization, LADIES FOR KATIE.
We have been raising money by accepting donations for pink,
glow-in-the-dark bracelets that say, "Love isn't love until you give it away!"
The money we have raised has gone towards assisting young women with cancer
in paying for house cleaning and child care assistance, and making knit hats for
those who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
